Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Lisa West
Hello and Welcome to the “Principal’s Page!”
I am Dr. Lisa West and I am the proud principal of Woodland Elementary East. I am extremely honored to be a part of the Elementary East team, and I enjoy working closely with students, staff, and families of District 50. Everyday is a wonderful day to be a wildcat in Woodland!
I’d like to take some time to share a little information about myself. I grew up in Iowa with my two older brothers and sister. As a child, I loved reading and thought that I would grow up to be an author or maybe an actor because I loved going to the movies. Then, I met Mrs. Steiert, my fourth grade teacher, and I knew I wanted to be just like her. In college, I discovered my love for young children and I decided I would be an elementary school teacher. This love for learning led me to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, and a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University. I love learning!
I began my teaching career in Houston, Texas where I taught kindergarten through fifth grade. While in Houston, I had the wonderful opportunity to become an instructional specialist, trainer of trainer for literacy, and a national trainer for Teachers’ Curriculum Institute. These opportunities instilled in me the love I now have for teaching adults as well as children. After time spent in Texas, I decided to return home to the Midwest where I joined Glencoe District 35. During my tenure there, I taught both fifth and sixth grades before beginning my administrative career in Woodland District 50.
I live in Wauconda, IL with my husband and two Labrador retrievers, Milo and Murray. After spending ten years in Chicago, it is nice to have a garage for my car and a nice backyard! In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, watching football, reality television, and enjoying my favorite snack of chips and salsa which I always have readily available to share.
I am honored to be the principal at Woodland Elementary East, and I look forward to the fun, exciting learning experiences yet to come! My door is always open, no appointment necessary. Stop by and say hello when you can. I look forward to working together as we foster our students’ love for learning!
