    Woodland 2020 Roadmap to Reopening
Plans for the 2020-2021 School Year are in progress. More Information.

    Food Drive:

The Woodland Food Drive will continue in the fall while supplies last. The Food Drive is the result of community members donating funds to help support our families during the COVID-19 pandemic. With your generous donations, Woodland staff purchased food and assembled meal packs - an extra bag of groceries with a few staples, meals and snacks. To date, we have distributed 1,508 meal packs!

The next food distribution event will take place Thursday, Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Woodland Middle School.

    Date: Thursday, Aug. 27
    Time: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Woodland Middle School, 7000 Washington St, Gurnee

    What is Novel Coronavirus?
2019 Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19, is a new respiratory virus identified in December 2019 as the cause of an outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. People who get sick with COVID-19 develop mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms including fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Illness can begin 2 to 14 days after an exposure. Spread from one person to another is thought to occur mainly via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Typically, with most respiratory viruses, people are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic.

News Release from the Governor: March 20, 2020 -  Gov. Pritzker Announces Statewide Stay At Home Order to Maximize COVID-19 Containment, Ensure Health Care System Remains Fully Operational

News Release from the Governor: March 13, 2020 - The State of Illinois has mandated that all K-12 public and private schools, including those in Lake County, close from March 17 through March 30, 2020 to promote social distancing and minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

    Prevent the Spread of Illness
We encourage residents to take “everyday preventive actions” to prevent the spread of illness and to keep our communities healthy. Practice the 3 C’s - Clean, Cover, Contain.

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.

    • Cover cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
    • If no tissue is available, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.

    • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Woodland Update sent Feb. 27, 2020
As reported in the news over the past few days, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has updated the COVID-19 response due to the potential spread of the virus in the United States. While the coronavirus news is concerning, no changes to normal operations are being recommended for schools at this time. Although there is no immediate threat, the district is reviewing our procedures in the event we need alternative plans. We will continue to follow the guidance of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the CDC, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Lake County Health Department (LCHD). We will keep you informed if there are any changes.

Thank you for continuing to put your trust in us as we work to keep our school community healthy. Your cooperation in keeping us informed, and following the guidelines for keeping students at home who are ill, are critical during this global health situation.

If anyone in your family has recently returned from mainland China, or for other questions about the virus, please contact:
    Ethel Cabalfin, Lead School Nurse

Woodland Update sent Feb. 18, 2020
Due to recent acceleration of 2019-nCoV Coronavirus transmission across China and in accordance with current federal guidance, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommends the following:

    • Any student or staff returning from mainland China on February 3, 2020 and onward should NOT attend school or work for 14 days after the return date.
Absences for this purpose will be excused and alternate arrangements will be made.
    • Notify the appropriate school about the absence as soon as possible.
    • Before returning to school or work, consult a healthcare practitioner and provide a return-to-school or return-to-work letter to the appropriate Health Office.

Woodland Update sent Feb. 4, 2020
The Lake County Health Department recently shared important information about Coronavirus. We wanted to pass along that information to you because we believe in prevention through education. You will see in the letter from the Health Department that they believe the risk is in Lake County is low, but this is a great time to review the following health tips and guidelines for keeping your child home when they are sick.

English / Spanish (Please Note: The LCHD has updated this letter since we originally shared it with you via email)

Tips for Keeping Your Family Healthy:

    • Wash your hands frequently
    • Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose, mouth) with unwashed hands
    • Stay home when you are sick
    • Cover coughs and sneezes
    • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects regularly

To help prevent the spread of illness, we ask you keep your child home if he or she:

    • Has a fever of 100 (oral) degrees or higher
    • Has severe abdominal cramps, vomiting, or diarrhea
    • Has a sore throat with a fever
    • Has a persistent cough (dry or productive)
    • Has a rash or open and draining sores
    • Has any symptoms that prevent him or her from participating in school including excessive tiredness, pain, or shortness of breath.

Upon return to school, your child should be free of fever with no fever-reducing medications, no vomiting, no diarrhea, and physically fit for at least 24 hours.
